It may not be a mountain in your eyes, but it was in mine.
background: I was getting married in Vegas, in 4 months time. I had lost around 5 stone in weight. I felt literally on top of the world. as part of our trip, we were entertaining a hike down into the Grand Canyon (talk about running before you can walk; but we felt invincible) so for training, we headed up our highest, closest mountain/hill/cliff/whatever.
it took us a few hours, but at the top, it was more than just a finale: it was the beginning. In my mind, I could accomplish anything. 2011 was the most eye opening, wondrous, year of my life.
at the top, for the first time, I realised how far I had come. me of 8 months ago couldn’t climb the stairs -let alone a mountain- without feeling knackered. I felt like I could accomplish anything. and in many ways I did.
We never did organise the hike in to the Grand Canyon, and it doesn’t matter; seeing it - being there- doing all these glorious things- was more than enough. I will savour these memories forever.

I can play the guitar. and bass, and drums, but those aren’t badges yet.
The point is, my first love was guitar. I started lessons at 13, and have played ever since. I have played a handful of gigs as a guitarist, but my main passion is drums. I love drums so much. I love being the glue that holds everyone together.
But guitar is nice too, and importantly, it is where I began. from the Titanic theme tune, to blue oyster cult, to guns and roses to nirvana to my own compositions- guitar was the love of my life, once.
